By early June, the wild angelica (Angelica sylvestris) emerges on the banks of the Thames. Where we walk the Thames Path near Farmoor in Oxfordshire, the anglica grows in dense clumps producing massive pom-poms of ‘umbrels’ – the extraordinary white flowers. The new growth of reed reaches up in the shallows, offering shelter for water birds, like this coot (Fulica atra).
Painted during lockdown 2020.
