I was feeling low and struggling to find the enthusiasm to paint anything. I remembered the words of Vincent van Gogh said: “If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.” So I lay down by the pond, to think and pick out blanketweed and watch the tadpoles. I was delighted to see a beautiful frog very close to my face (they usually disappear from view with a ‘sploosh!) So I thought I’d sploosh some paint to honour of my Frog Prince!
Here he is, emerging right beneath the last kingcup in flower – his golden crown! And that’s how I knew he was the Frog Prince. Some people call them marsh marigolds, scientists call them Caltha palustris. One of my absolute favourite flowers. On the right are the emerging leaves of the yellow flag iris rising from the water.
This painted map of the Wharf Stream Way, a new permissive footpath through the fields and paths to the east of the village of Eynsham, was commissioned by West Oxfordshire District Council for an interpretation panel erected at the start of the walk. The panel gives walkers an idea of the nature they can spot as they walk, and the history of the features to be encountered on the route.
Original painted map - watercolour on paper - size A1 - comes to you unframed. Price includes P&P.
