The European starling (Sturnus vulagaris) is one of my favourite birds and a subject I have returned to for many years. They recently flew back into my head for yet more artistic interpretation!
In this painting a pair of starlings in flight swoop their way through a stylised thunderstorm inspired by motifs in collection of The Royal Paintings of Jodhpur. Lines of rain fall from swirling, billowing storm clouds and a bolt of lightning crashes down.
This painting was a gift to my flame-haired nephew, whose totem animal is a red fox, and is shown here for your viewing pleasure.
