If you’re interested in the history and culture of Easter Island as I am, you may well ask yourself: Who will be the birdman now? In the local language you would say Tangata manu at Orongo.
The little islet depicted is Motu Nui which lies off the south west of Easter Island, and was the focus of the birdman cult.
I achieved a long-held ambition in 2011 and visited Easter Island myself.
