I’m enjoying hearing the song thrushes singing their sweet cascading song on my morning walks, and I started to imagine what they were was singing about. What are Mr Thrush’s lyrics? He must be singing: “Hey, lady Thrushes! Look at me! Let’s build a nest! Mate with me! Let’s raise some chick together!” He’s also singing “Oi, rival Mr Thrushes, keep off, this is my patch!” And because thrushes are always on the look out for food, he’s also singing about yummy fruits and juicy snails he hopes to eat. So I thought I’d paint exactly this. He’s perched on a branch of apple blossom as he sings.
The painting’s title ,”That’s the Wise Thrush”, is a line from Robert Browning poem ‘Home-Thoughts, from Abroad’, the one that begins ‘Oh, to be in England Now that April’s there’.
