I made this painting, Best of British, as an antidote to the chaos and madness caused by Brexit. In the uncertain times in the run up to the first Brexit deadline on 29 March 2019, I fell out of love with my nation and painted Brexit Forecast to express my sadness and frustration. Best of British is a painting shows 50 things I love about Britain.
I’m not especially patriotic, but to be from the same country as Shakespeare, David Attenborough, Charles Darwin, the Beatles, and Morecambe & Wise seems to me to be a thing to shout about. To be from the nation that had the foresight to create a National Health Service (NHS), that invented the steam locomotive, still performs ancient folk dances, and gets excited about an impenetrably beautiful and gentlemanly game like cricket is something not to be sneezed at. A game that stops for tea! If you’re British you’ll understand.
I have illustrated 50 of the things I love about Britain – perhaps some of your favourite things are shown on my painting?
I spotted a big brown hare in a field margin just outside our village. I'd gone out to admire the hawthorn blossom and cow parsley in the verges, but this lovely creature made my day!

I also have greetings cards of this painting.
This painting is no longer available, and is shown here for your viewing pleasure. However, a range of print of it is available. It looks especially good printed onto a canvas.
